Fee Schedules: Fiction & Non-fiction

 

Manuscript Development: $60 to $150 per hour

From soup to nuts: You have an idea for a book that’s been rolling around in the back of your mind for years, but you don’t have the foggiest idea of where to start. I’ll coach you in getting started, guide you through rough spots, and ultimately explore your publication options (literary agent, self-publishing). OR…Your agent has sent out your manuscript, there was interest, but it hasn’t sold. I’ll suggest ways to polish, tighten, or rework areas to bring it into a bidding war.

Marketing Consultation: $75-$125 per hour

Pre-publication: Support in professionally marketing yourself to an agent or publisher, including query and proposal writing, and development of a marketing plan. Exploration of alternative funding resources for self-publication.

Publicizing your book: You’re being published–yahoo! Writing your book was just the beginning. Now you must get busy creating publicity and marketing strategies to make sure that people will want to buy it, and that it’s available to them when they do. (The sad reality is that books don’t just magically appear on every bookstore’s counter by the register.) To create a demand for your book, I’ll counsel you in obtaining reviews, interviews and endorsements.

Copy & Continuity Editing: $5 to $10 per page

Manuscript pages must be numbered, double spaced, 12 pt font, with 1.25″ margins. I use the Chicago Manual of Style (15th Edition) and Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.  Diacritical marks will be made directly on the manuscript, and you will receive a 5 to10-page summary of organizational, formatting and continuity suggestions.

Light:  Minor grammatical, spelling and punctuation sentence structure, minor plot glitches
Medium:  Sentence structure, minor plot glitches
Heavy: Major changes in formatting, continuity, and it looks like a monkey typed it

Because I often am on the phone chatting with clients, email  is the most efficient way to contact me. My fees and fee structures (by the hour or by the page) vary, depending upon the type of work you’d like me to do. Once you contact me via email, I’ll set up a complimentary telephone consultation. Ultimately, I’ll need to see a small sample of what you’ve written, or an outline of your ideas, to get a sense of what’s involved in your project before I give you a quote. I’ll be happy to give you an updated list of references and works in progress.

Before giving a quote I will ask to see 10-12 sample pages and an outline if available.
